From bulb fields

to mum fields.

It all began with an idea: a greenhouse with a fun and educational shopping experience. Starting a greenhouse felt natural for our family. The Nauta roots in horticulture date back generations, as our ancestors originate from the bulb fields in the Netherlands.

From our family to yours, we hope that you have as much fun shopping and spending time with us as we do provding the experience.

Our Story

We had humble beginnings in the Fall of 2013 with just garden mums, pumpkins and decor. In 2014, we expanded to a full-service greenhouse with annuals, perennials, and just about everything your garden needs. Today, Fitchburg Farms has grown to over 20,000 square feet of greenhouse space filled with annuals, perennials, indoor plants and more. In the fall months, you’ll be able to find some of Wisconsin’s best mums grown right in our backyard on over two acres of field space.

We’re situated on 46 acres of farmland on the corner of U.S. Highway 14 and County Road MM – conveniently located just 9 miles south of our State Capitol – in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

We strive to provide world-class products and knowledge. With a staff of over 50 years of combined experience, you can be sure you’re in good hands.  As we have grown, our team has grown, but our passion for high quality plants has remained the same.

Environmental Impact

As a greenhouse, sustainability is always top of mind. In 2015, we began our long-term planning to increase that sustainability. We knew this was a tall order, but as an organization, it was clear that doing our part to combat climate change was necessary. We began this task by installing a 30,000-gallon water tank on site. This water storage silo captures our roof water when it rains and provides us high quality water to irrigate our over 3,000 hanging baskets, annuals and our grow fields. Fun fact, it takes just an inch of rain to fill the silo! Our future projects include solar panels, larger composting, pot recycling programs, and improving our heating efficiency.

Community Impact

Since the beginning of our time at Fitchburg Farms, we’ve been giving back to the community that welcomed us with open arms. We partner with community organizations and local schools through various programs. For example, local Parent Teacher Organizations feature our hanging baskets, mums and poinsettias for their fundraisers. As part of this partnership, these organizations keep 15% of sales. This allows for re-investment into imperative programs for the kids they serve.
